The Lockerley Herd was established in 1998 with the arrangement to purchase a 10 cow draft of "Nightingale" cows and the entire "Burningfold" herd of 60 breeding cows. We have since retained our home bred females and expanded the herd to 170 breeding cows with many of the foundation cows having moved on. We are now enjoying great success with our homebred females.

The "Burningfold" herd had been established 25 years earlier with purchases of cows from the "Kirktonlees" and "Kinermony" herds. The use of two successive "Haymount" bulls, Wavalo and Evebar had made a big impact on the herd.

Our initial stock bull was "Nightingale Dalgleish" sired by "Youngdale Hogan" and he was joined by "Netherton Eastern Cruz" sired by "Dalrene Cruz" in 1999 and "Nightingale Pascall" sired by "Eileenmere Lad" in 2000. These bulls have made a tremendous impact on our herd.

Lockerley Hall Farm have now achieved Elite Heath Status for the Lockerley Herd. We are CHeCS accredited free from Johnes, Lepto, BVD and IBR. Please see the news page for more information.
